Solar water heaters are very essential for the people residing in India. The property dealers and owners seek to have different solar water heating system installed in the houses so that they can save expenditures for hot water purposes. Solar water heaters are gaining popularity as the utilization of solar energy to heat the water is a free of cost, renewable source of energy.

A solar power water heater can basically be categorized into “Active” and “Passive” systems. The Active system uses storage tanks, electric pumps, anti-freeze, reflecting mirrors and is more costly than the Passive one’s. An active system is most commonly used in areas where it is cold throughout the year, and the temperature rarely goes above 15 degrees. The passive system depends upon the natural tendency of hot water, to move up the pipes, and the warm water is collected in a tank situated above, they are suitable for most of the houses and demand less structural considerations.

Suitability of solar water heating systems

Solar water can be installed anywhere from where adequate amount of solar heat can be absorbed by the system like a terrace or rooftop. Appropriate system should be chosen to facilitate the benefits of solar water heating systems. Mainly they are of two types.

Single system:  These systems are used in apartments and complexes where they need excessive hot water. So, to satisfy the need of hot water, more energy is absorbed from the sun by the system. It has a large tank with many solar collectors connected to each other with the help of the pipe system.

Individual or smaller system: These systems are used for a family or likewise, where the amount of hot water required is less. The advantage of this system is that each house in not forced to share hot water coming from one tank, but every house will have their own water heater.

Installing solar water heater system

It is very easy and simple to install a solar heater. Before installing the solar heater, the place should be planned so that maximum heat can be absorbed by the heater. PVC and water hose will be required for the flow of cold water to the system. Many more pipes will be needed which will supply hot water from the system to home.
