Renewable energy is the energy which is originated from natural resources like rain, wind, tides, sunlight as well as geothermal heat. These resources are inexhaustible in nature and they are replenished naturally.
Since 200 B.C. renewable energy resources are being used. In ancient times windmills were used by the farmers and other persons who lived in china and the Middle East to grind grains and pump water. Even Romans started using renewable energy resources and they were the first to make use of geothermal energy to heat the houses during the cold.

In ancient times Renewable energy resources were the dominating energy resources. Most of the household work and other energy needs were provided by wood around one and a half centuries ago which is a form of biomass.
Now in today’s era we are again interested in renewable energy resources because of the extinction, high price and greenhouse gases of fossil fuels. Excessive use of fossil fuels and nuclear power made the fossil fuels reach under exhaustion state. It even affects the environment as it pollutes it whenever we use fossil fuels for energy.
But in the case of renewable energy resource there is no point of price hike or polluting the environment as the energy is coming from natural resources which is available to everyone free of cost like wind, sunshine, flowing water as well as biological waste. Unlike renewable energy resource fossil fuels are very limited to us and there is an increment of cost on the fossil fuels as well when it is limited amount.
But renewable energy resources are unlimited and will never get exhausted. The amount of petroleum or natural gas present in our earth is very limited but wind energy, solar energy and water power are abundant in nature.
The renewable energy resources are being used in modern days effectively and records say that in the year 2006 around 18% of energy consumed globally was from renewable sources and 13% was from biomass for e.g. wood burning etc. In the year 2008, 7% of energy which is used in the United States was from renewable sources which is about 7.3 quadrillion Btu.
Albert Einstein who is one of the famous scientist and theoretical physicist received a Nobel Prize for the renewable energy field as well. He was awarded because he discovered the law of the photoelectric effect.
In The United States Of America 1.5 million homes are provided electricity which is from the biomass energy resource. There are more than 200 bio power plants present in America and it is the largest renewable energy source. Many projects like Manure-to-energy biogas projects are giving their efforts and play a role in powering up to 3% of India’s electricity needs.
Researchers are going on to somehow consume the solar energy which falls on the earth’s surface which can solve many problems to conserve energy.

A new renewable energy trend has come in the generation which is named as distributed generation. It allows the consumer who is producing heat and current for their personal needs to give the extra electrical power into the power grid or can even share the extra heat with the help of a distributed heating grid.

There has to be some plans and strategy globally such that the concept of renewable energy resources and the applications are easily available to every country whether it is developed or underdeveloped. Government will play a major role in implementing numerous plans to improve the usage of renewable energy.

The recent EU Directive on renewable energy resources keeps determined targets like the EU will go up to 20% share of energy all from renewable energy resource by 2020 and 10% share of the resources will be implemented only on transport factor for all the Member States.
In 2007 the government of Australia ensured that 20% of electricity power supply will come from utilizing renewable energy sources by the end of 2020.
