Renewable energy is the energy which is originated from natural resources like rain, wind, tides, sunlight as well as geothermal heat. These resources are inexhaustible in nature and they are replenished naturally. Since 200 B.C. renewable energy resources are being used. In ancient times windmills were used by the farmers and other persons who lived in china and the Middle East to grind grains and pump water. Even Romans started using renewable energy resources and they were the first to make use of geothermal energy to heat the houses during the cold. In ancient times Renewable energy resources were the dominating energy resources. Most of the household work and other energy needs were provided by wood around one and a half centuries ago which is a form of biomass. Now in today’s era we are again interested in renewable energy resources because of the extinction, high price and greenhouse gases of fossil fuels. Excessive use of fossil fuels and nuclear power made the fossil fuels reach under exhaustion state. It even affects the environment as it pollutes it whenever we use fossil fuels for energy. But in the case of renewable energy resource there is no point of price hike or polluting the environment as the energy is coming from natural resources which is available to everyone free of cost like wind, sunshine, flowing water as well as biological waste. Unlike renewable energy resource fossil fuels are very limited to us and there is an increment of cost on the fossil fuels as well when it is limited amount. But renewable energy resources are unlimited and will never get exhausted. The amount of petroleum or natural gas present in our earth is very limited but wind energy, solar energy and water power are abundant in nature. The renewable energy resources are being used in modern days effectively and records say that in the year 2006 around 18% of energy consumed globally was from renewable sources and 13% was from biomass for e.g. wood burning etc. In the year 2008, 7% of energy which is used in the United States was from renewable sources which is about 7.3 quadrillion Btu. Albert Einstein who is one of the famous scientist and theoretical physicist received a Nobel Prize for the renewable energy field as well. He was awarded because he discovered the law of the photoelectric effect. In The United States Of America 1.5 million homes are provided electricity which is from the biomass energy resource. There are more than 200 bio power plants present in America and it is the largest renewable energy source. Many projects like Manure-to-energy biogas projects are giving their efforts and play a role in powering up to 3% of India’s electricity needs. Researchers are going on to somehow consume the solar energy which falls on the earth’s surface which can solve many problems to conserve energy....

Solar water heaters facts

Solar water heater is equipment which facilitates us by providing hot water for various purposes by using the energy from the sun. To make water hot by using solar energy, there are many new innovative ideas and renewable energy technologies that are well built since many years. Solar water heating (SWH) systems comprise of solar collector and storage tanks in which the process of water heating by using solar energy is done. Mainly there are two different types of solar water heating (SWH) systems: active and passive. Active systems comprise of circulating pumps and controls but passive is not provided with any pumps. Active solar water heating systems are more efficient as compared to Passive solar water heating systems and hence are little more expensive than Passive solar water heating systems. Passive solar water heating systems are typically less expensive than active systems, but they’re usually not as efficient. Nonetheless passive systems are more reliable that active systems and they work for a long duration of time. The main motive of solar water heating systems is making warm water available for most of the year. Even on cloudy days it is possible to get warm water as the water gets heated because of the diffused radiation which is available in the air. But during winters as the intensity of heat is less therefore sufficient hot water may not be delivered during that season. It does not make any such difference as the water which is coming from the system is stored in geyser which has an electric back up by which we can avail hot water whenever we switch on the power supply. If no geyser is present at home then the electric backup will be provided in the storage tank itself. SWH systems provide many facilities and helps in using less non-renewable resources. Once it is installed in anybody’s home then there is hardly any cost for getting hot water as it heats up the water with the help of natural source. This system also helps in reducing carbon dioxide emissions when it is installed as it is a renewable source of heating. Even the maintenance cost of SWH system is very less. The solar water heating systems come with a warranty of five years or ten years and if anything happens to the system then it will be made proper without any charge. If the systems are under well maintained condition then the pumps are capable to operate for more than ten years. To make solar water heater working there has to be a collector which should be located in the roof of the building or the ceiling facing the sun. The job of the collector is to heat the water which is flowing in the system and then the hot water is either pumped (active) or is flown naturally (passive) through it. The collector is manufactured...
